WWE have fired Hulk Hogan - on the same day reports in US claimed the iconic wrestler made racist remarks.

A joint story from Radar Online and the National Enquirer reports Hogan - real name Terry Bollea - has been caught making racial slurs on unreleased footage from the 61-year-old’s sex tape.

The titles claim details of Hogan’s alleged conversation have been revealed to their journalists investigating the veteran star by five independent sources from transcripts filed under seal to a Florida court.

WWE said in a statement earlier today: "WWE terminated its contract with Terry Bollea (aka Hulk Hogan).

"WWE is committed to embracing and celebrating individuals from all backgrounds as demonstrated by the diversity of our employees, performers and fans worldwide."

Hall of Famer Hogan has a case management conference - the next stage in his $100m lawsuit with Gawker Media - scheduled for the beginning of October.

The former 6-time WWE champion posted a cryptic tweet in the early hours of this morning, saying: "God and his Universe will sail me where he wants me to be”, following the removal of content on the sport entertainment giant’s website.

His WWE.com profile was taken down before the story was published, and his merchandise was also removed from WWE's online shop. Hogan had been scheduled to be part of WWE's tour of Australia in August in an ambassadorial role.
